Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
-
Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4)
-
An appropriate recognised National Diploma or Degree in:
-
Psychology, or
-
Bachelor of Arts / Social Work (with Psychology as a major), or
-
A relevant qualification at NQF Level 6 or 7
-
-
Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in an education, teaching and learning environment or a related field
-
At least three (3) years’ experience at a supervisory level
-
Computer literacy
-
Valid driver’s licence

Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Overseeing the administration of the Student Support Services (SSS) Unit
-
Developing the annual SSS operational plan, allocating tasks, and monitoring progress against approved targets
-
Developing, reviewing, and implementing SSS policies, procedures, processes, and job profiles
-
Ensuring the accurate compilation of learner progress reports, statements, results, and handling student enquiries
-
Monitoring student behaviour and academic performance, including those participating in internal and external counselling programmes
Counselling and Student Support
-
Managing student counselling services across the college
-
Implementing counselling and guidance policies, procedures, and best practices
-
Coordinating and monitoring counselling services across campuses
-
Designing and implementing life-skills programmes as preventative counselling measures
-
Ensuring counselling services comply with required standards and ethical codes
-
Managing individual counselling and intervention programmes addressing psycho-social challenges
-
Ensuring the counselling database is developed, maintained, and regularly updated
Career Guidance and Academic Support
-
Providing career guidance, counselling, and academic support to students
-
Developing and monitoring career guidance plans for prospective and enrolled students
-
Liaising with Vocational Programme Managers and stakeholders to enhance workplace-based learning opportunities
-
Coordinating and motivating career guidance initiatives at central office and campus levels
Sport, Arts, and Culture
-
Overseeing sports, recreation, arts, and cultural activities for students
-
Coordinating the implementation of sports and recreation programmes
-
Ensuring campus participation in college, provincial, and national sporting events
-
Ensuring the development and implementation of an annual Sport, Arts, and Culture plan and budget
Student Governance and Leadership
-
Coordinating and monitoring annual SRC election processes
-
Facilitating SRC training, mentoring, and development programmes
-
Reviewing and updating the Student Code of Conduct and SRC Constitution
-
Monitoring student orientation and induction programmes
Additional Responsibilities
-
Mainstreaming gender and disability initiatives within student support services
-
Managing all human, financial, and other resources of the unit
