Job Description

Join Evove Cyber as a core member of our Founding Team. This role offers a unique opportunity to be more than just an employee—you will be a key contributor to our defensive cyber operations, working directly under the guidance of the Founder to help shape the future of the business.

While your primary focus will be active defence and security analysis, Evove Cyber is a high-performance startup that values holistic defenders. You will be expected to participate across multiple areas of the business, including client engagement and technical strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Threat Hunting & Research: Proactively identify anomalies and conduct in-depth research on emerging global cyber threats to strengthen defensive capabilities.

  • Triage & Analysis: Investigate security alerts and accurately distinguish between false positives and confirmed threats.

  • Incident Response: Execute the cyber kill chain process, including isolating compromised endpoints and blocking malicious IP addresses.

  • Vulnerability Management: Conduct vulnerability scans and support remediation efforts.

  • Compliance: Assist with POPIA compliance checks and client reporting requirements.


Desired Qualifications & Experience

Preferred Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (School of Information and Digital Technology)

This qualification is preferred due to its focus on Cyber Security Principles, Network Monitoring, and Data Analytics.

Alternative Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology Management (with a focus on IT Law, Ethics, and Systems Analysis)

Experience:

  • Final-year student or recent graduate


Core Competencies

  • Operational Discipline: Ability to follow strict procedures under pressure and contribute to the development of effective security playbooks.

  • Analytical Thinking: Strong capability to interpret logs, data patterns, and network traffic.

  • Communication: Clear and concise documentation of incidents for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Requirements

  • Strong theoretical understanding of networking (TCP/IP) and cyber security fundamentals.

  • Proficiency in Linux and security-focused operating systems; command-line experience is essential.

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced startup environment.


Nice to Have

  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CySA+.

  • Basic Python scripting knowledge.


Contract Details

  • Contract Length: 6-month contract, with review for renewal or permanency based on performance and internal resource requirements.


Work Arrangement

  • Location: Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal

  • Work Model: Primarily office-based, with occasional remote work and client site visits
